Trip to Manchester 24/11/2010

Pupils on the Sports and Active Leisure Diploma and taking GCSE History at Sundorne School had the privilege to visit the Imperial war museum and Old Trafford football stadium in Manchester on Wednesday. It was a fantastic trip enjoyed by everyone who attended.
A lot of the trophies in the museum.
We left the school at about 9.20 in the morning and arrived at the war museum at about 11.00am, pupils on the Diploma had about half an hour to look around the museum which had some very interesting exhibitions on offer. At about 11.40 the diploma pupils set off from the museum just up the road to Old Trafford where we looked around the museum which was absolutely fantastic, there were so many trophies and bits from the past that were incredible. There were quite a few sad things such as bits about the Munich disaster in 1958.

The home changing room.
We were also very lucky to go into the Manchester United changing room where all of the players shirts were, we were told where the manager sits and what happens in there before the game and at half-time. Moreover we went down the corridor where the changing rooms are situated and saw the managers lounge and players lounge which were really good. We also got to go down the tunnel, we split into two lines and actually went down the tunnel after the Public Announcer just like at a real game which was a good realistic experience. The ground looks brilliant and it is so big, we had a very good tour which was so interesting.

Overall, everybody had a fantastic day, Old Trafford is certainly a brilliant venue and we only had to pay £10 for a trip to the museum and a tour around one of the best stadiums in the country. If you are in year 9 and thinking about your options, and you are interested in sport then take the Sports and Active Leisure diploma. It is a great course where you can get 7 GCSE's, a personalised tracksuit and the opportunity to go on amazing trips like this one for a small amount of money.

Bishops Castle Year 10's 1-2 Sundorne Schools Year 10's

Sundorne schools year 10 boys football team travelled to South Shropshire for the county plate tie against Bishops Castle last Monday where they won 2-1 to progress through to the next round.

Sundorne were welcomed with the return of James Jehu, Matthew Richards and Will Wills who all missed the 2-1 victory over Grange the week earlier due to illness and injury. It was Sundorne who kicked off and started the game the brightest with some early chances at goal but the Bishops Castle 'keeper was on good form.   Bishops Castle had a few chances and Sundorne's Jamie Smith almost scored an own goal but it luckily missed the net and went out for a corner. It remained a tight first half with the home side improving as the game went on and it finished goalless at half time with Sundorne finishing the strongest after some good football on a poor pitch.
However, despite a positive first half from the visitors, it was Bishops Castle who started the brighter and were rewarded for their good start.  Their right midfielder was allowed to run a long distance up the pitch, cut in and strike the ball past goalkeeper Wills to make it 1-0. Sundorne responded and kept their heads up playing some good football. James Jehu came on to replace Ashley Chater and Matthew Richards coming on  for Matty Parton with Ben Simmons going from left back to left midfield. James Jehu made an immediate impact with some great runs providing Sundorne with an attacking threat going down the wing. All the hard work payed off when Mark Murch played a great ball to Jehu who played it across the box, there was a bit of a scramble before Josh Hanks grabbed the equaliser. This gave Sundorne more confidence and started to play football again and attacking movement was becoming frequent. The hard work paid off when James Jehu received the ball in the box, headed it down to Josh Hanks who put it away for his second and to give Sundorne the lead with about three minutes to go.
The game finished 2-1 to Sundorne, a reasonable performance and a very good result put them through to the next round of the County Plate. The team will take confidence from the victory and so far it has been a good start to the season.
